Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) is seeking a Community Technician for a full-time role based in New York. The position supports individuals experiencing homelessness, staying calm during crises and emergencies while maintaining a safe residential environment.

You will engage residents with trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques, respond to safety concerns, and complete required documentation. Certifications are provided and encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep
