Job summary

Orb is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Entitlements & Spend Platform team in a hybrid SF Bay Area setting. You will lead the runtime layer between the billing engine and customer workflows—handling alerting, spend controls, entitlement checks, and usage analytics—ensuring real‑time, accurate state for balance and spend decisions.

You will set technical direction with product and design, shape the roadmap, and own interfaces used across Orb.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in engineering management or tech lead roles.
• Proven track record growing engineers and maintaining high technical standards.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and establish foundations in a high‑leverage domain.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and real‑time or low‑latency architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own the success and growth of your engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and onboarding.
• Oversee architecture reviews, manage technical debt, and maintain long‑term maintainability while balancing speed and quality.
• Advocate for developer experience and API design quality across the team surface.
• Drive scoping, costing, and estimation with clear expectations and risk management.
• Lead QA to ensure correctness and completeness in this critical domain.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture and align PM with architectural discussions early.
• Partner with Product and Design to ensure engineering insight informs the roadmap and customer perspective.
