Job summary

SCA Health in the United States seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) Endoscopy to join our perioperative team. You will plan and deliver patient care across GI procedures, anesthesia recovery, and instrument handling in a fast-paced setting.

Ideal candidates have GI/OR nursing experience, an active nursing license, BLS/BCLS, ACLS, and possibly PALS if pediatric care is included, with a commitment to safety and quality care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• One year GI, OR and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standing.
• Successful completion of BLS/BCLS within 90 days of employment.
• Successful completion of ACLS within 90 days of employment.
• PALS certification required if pediatric care is included (within 90 days).
• GI Nursing specialty certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care by implementing.
• Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources.
• Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and report unsafe situations.
• Speak up with safety concerns acting as the patient’s advocate.
• Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
• Adhere to universal protocol and time-out policies.
• Communicate patient status to relevant care teams throughout the continuum.
• Administer medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration.
• Practice aseptic technique and maintain infection control.
• Manage patient recovery from anesthesia – Moderate sedation and MAC.
• Assess patient status according to policies and provide appropriate monitoring.
• Ensure endoscopy scopes are prepared per instructions and maintained.
• Maintain endoscopy instruments and troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Protect patient systems balance and maintain normothermia post-op.
• Provide patient education on postoperative care, nutrition, meds, and pain.
• Involve patients in perioperative decisions and promote privacy.
• Provide hand-off reports to teammates; delegate tasks per regulations.
• Participate in quality review, performance improvement, and team engagements.
