Job summary

Westfields Hospital & Clinic is seeking an Emergency Room Technician to assist in the ED with patient care, specimen collection, and documentation. The role supports RNs and applies sterile technique, with a focus on safety, privacy, and quality care in a fast-paced environment. Primary day shift is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

with some flexibility; every third weekend may include 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. A Wisconsin CNA or EMT certification is required, along with BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Wisconsin CNA certification or Wisconsin EMT certification required.
  • BLS certification must be current or obtained within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely personal care to patients per care plans and policies.
  • Assist RN with nursing care and treatments as needed.
  • Collect specimens and document according to policies.
  • Operate equipment safely and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assist with insertion of catheters, IVs, and blood collection as trained.
  • Register patients when registration staff is unavailable and stock supplies.

Job Description

The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) in Westfields Hospital & Clinic's Emergency Department performs routine treatments, assists in the collection of patient specimens (urine, stool, and finger stick blood glucose), documents in accordance with departmental policies, assists the RN with nursing care and treatments as needed and completes other patient care duties as assigned. Duties include:

  • Provides timely personal care of acceptable quality to patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards, and approved individualized care plans in a manner mindful of patient privacy, comfort, and safety.
  • Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and other staff while ensuring confidentiality of patient information and protection of patient privacy.
  • Operates equipment and performs work in a safe manner, demonstrating proper body mechanics in lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying.
  • Demonstrates correct application of orthopedic appliances (ace wrap, ankle splints, knee/shoulder immobilizer, arm slings, cast boots, and crutch fitting).
  • Employs principles of sterile technique (tray/instrument set up.)
  • Illustrates competency of insertion of urinary catheters, IV’s, and blood collection with an IV start.
  • Follows correct process of patient registration when registration staff is not on duty.
  • Maintains department supplies by inventory and stocking.
Work Schedule
  • Primary day shift (7a-3:30p) with some flexibility to work 3p-11 if needed. Every 3rd weekend, 7a-7:30p.
Required Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Current Wisconsin CNA certification
  • Or-
  • Current Wisconsin EMT certification
And
  • Current or within 3 months of hire - BLS Certification (must maintain every 2 years)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in EPIC computer system.
  • Two years of clinical experience in an inpatient or community medical emergency setting preferred.
