Job summary

WV Department of Human Services is seeking an Eligibility Counselor for the Bureau of Family Assistance to process applications and determine eligibility for economic assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers.

Under supervision, you will schedule interviews, conduct personal interviews, maintain up-to-date caseloads, refer clients to services, and ensure accurate benefit administration. A valid driver's license may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Experience substituting training with direct client services is acceptable.
• Experience in Economic Services work with program eligibility decisions.
• Successful substitution: college coursework may substitute for training on a year-for-year basis.
• A valid driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Process applications and ascertain eligibility for various economic assistance programs.
• Schedule telephone and face-to-face interviews.
• Conduct personal interviews to collect financial and social information.
• Maintain an up-to-date client caseload and refer clients to supportive services.
• May obtain repayment for benefits issued erroneously.
