Job summary

BARNES & NOBLE COLLEGE is hiring an Assistant Store Manager to help the Store or General Manager run daily operations, supervise staff, and ensure top customer service on campus locations.

You will oversee departments, engage with customers, and support sales goals while developing the team and maintaining an inviting, organized sales floor. The role requires flexibility and strong communication across teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in a retail setting.
• 1+ year supervisory experience or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
• Basic reading, writing and accounting skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the Store Manager or General Manager.
• Involvement in purchasing, directing operational functions, scheduling and team development.
• Deliver outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community while helping the store meet or exceed sales goals.
• Motivate the team, train, and develop staff to create excitement around products and initiatives.
• Drive the team to create customer experiences that enhance bookstore loyalty and measurable results.
• Maintain an appealing sales floor, assist with sales transactions, and support store objectives.
