Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help lead the campus store with the Store Manager. You will develop teams, drive operations, and deliver an exceptional customer experience across Course Materials, General Merchandise, Café/Convenience, and more.

You will recruit, train, coach, and schedule staff while analyzing sales trends and managing expenses to meet business goals. Join a dynamic campus environment that values service and learning.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of retail experience, including at least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, visual merchandising, and customer service.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail technology, POS systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily sales floor operations by delivering exceptional customer service and coaching team members.
• Partner with Store Manager to oversee daily store operations, act as Manager-on-Duty as needed, and execute company initiatives.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop store team members.
• Drive sales and operational performance by analyzing business trends and managing controllable expenses.
• Build relationships with customers and campus partners; resolve customer concerns professionally.
• Develop expertise across departments and support operations such as Course Materials, General Merchandise, Café/Convenience, and Trade Books.
• Support merchandising, inventory management, stock replenishment, order fulfillment, and other operational activities.
• Champion a clean, safe, and organized store environment.
