Job summary

HDR is seeking a Major Bridge Technical Director to lead the Bridges and Structures program within HDR’s Transportation Business Group. The role combines strategic technical direction, staff leadership, and hands-on delivery across large, multi-disciplinary, long-span projects in North America.

You will mentor engineers, enforce HDR’s design standards, drive QA/QC, and collaborate with clients to deliver safe, resilient bridge solutions while advancing HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in structural/bridge engineering or equivalent.
• Professional engineer license (PE or P.Eng) with SE preferred.
• 20+ years leading bridge projects and client management.
• Experience as EOR or lead designer for at least one cable-stayed bridge ≥ 900 ft main span.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, directing, and monitoring large multi-disciplinary bridge projects.
• Provide technical oversight and cross-team coordination.
• Deliver bridge design leadership and engage with design teams.
• Perform complex long-span analysis and design for various bridge types.
• Mentor junior engineers and supervise staff across locations.
• Oversee QA/QC and reviews of bridge plans.
• Support marketing and proposals for major bridge pursuits.
