Job summary

HDR seeks an experienced Major Bridge Technical Director to lead HDR’s Bridges and Structures portfolio within the Transportation Business Group. You will guide long-span bridge design, staff development, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to deliver high-impact infrastructure projects.

This senior role emphasizes technical excellence, client relations, and strategic growth across North America, with opportunities to influence HDR’s employee-owned culture and project delivery standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• PE or P.Eng license with SE preferred; reciprocity via NCEES.
• 20+ years of bridge project and client management experience.
• Experience leading design teams for long-span bridges ( cable-stayed, suspension, etc.).
• Proven ability to deliver complex bridge projects and manage multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, directing, and monitoring large, multi-disciplinary bridge projects.
• Provide technical oversight and cross-team coordination across design teams.
• Deliver technical leadership for bridge design, production, and site collaboration.
• Mentor junior engineers and supervise staff across locations.
• Support marketing, proposals, and partnerships for major bridge pursuits.
• Oversee QA/QC of bridge plans and ensure compliance with standards.
