Job summary

HDR is seeking a Major Bridge Technical Director to lead the technical direction of HDR’s major bridges program within the Bridges and Structures Business Class. You will shape design strategies, supervise staff, and ensure HDR standards are applied across projects.

This senior role requires deep bridge engineering expertise, a PE license, and proven experience in long-span projects, with opportunities to mentor teams and influence client engagements across North America and beyond.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Structural Engineering and licensure or equivalent.
• 20+ years of bridge project and client management experience.
• Proven leadership on long-span bridge projects (cable-stayed, arch, etc.).
• Experience with alternative delivery methods (Design-Build, P3).
• Strong communication and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, direction, and monitoring of large, complex bridge projects.
• Provide technical oversight and cross-team coordination.
• Deliver design leadership for bridge systems and production.
• Perform advanced analysis for long-span structures.
• Foster client relationships and support marketing efforts.
• Oversee QA/QC and project documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and staff across locations.
• Drive staff recruitment and training aligned with strategic goals.
