Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education seeks a Data Processing User Support Technician II to provide training and hands-on support for system equipment and software in our department. You will troubleshoot hardware and software issues, assist users with applications, and help prepare training materials and outlines for new releases.

You will also coordinate training center activities, install and maintain hardware and servers, and document resolutions for future reference.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school with knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions; high verbal skill.
• Experience or ability to understand and assist users with computer applications and systems.

Responsibilities

• Provides training and assistance to users on system equipment, procedures and computer application programs; conducts hands-on training in proprietary departmental information systems applications; prepares training outlines and materials; updates training when new releases occur.
• Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, assists users, diagnoses interruptions, and determines if escalation is needed; documents issues and resolutions; participates in testing software releases and recommends solutions.
• Maintains contact with users to assess training effectiveness; answers questions about software capabilities and assists with creating/maintaining proprietary applications to meet needs.
• Assists users by creating models, worksheets, electronic forms, data files to support financial/budgetary/operational requirements; performs rudimentary programming tasks for ad-hoc reports.
• Performs on-site installation and reinstallation of system hardware and software; schedules training center activities, orders supplies, maintains inventory, and oversees training center equipment and expenditures.
• Tracks training center expenditures and maintains servers at training center.
