Job summary

Ericsson Inc. is seeking a Data Center Optical Engineer to lead field work in customer data centers and co-locations.

You will ensure reliable installation, maintenance, and operation of optical transport infrastructure while interfacing with customers and vendors. The role requires strong hands-on optics experience, the ability to travel to non-home market sites for extended periods, and a focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Team lead experience guiding field crews and engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal English for customer-facing communications.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills using MS Office and customer applications.
• 3–15 years of experience in data center operations or similar environments with direct customer interaction.
• Hands-on experience with connectorized fiber optic cabling (single-mode & multi-mode, LC, fan-outs).
• Experience with optical testing and transport troubleshooting.
• Ability to multitask and stay calm in high-availability environments.
• Commitment to safety, quality and operating best practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily audits of work performed in customer data centers and provide feedback to technicians.
• Interact with customers via ticketing tools or in person, providing clear reports and updates.
• Assist with fiber installation, decommissioning, break/fix, remediation and migration activities across optical/transport environments.
• Conduct and/or supervise optical testing and troubleshooting with tools like OTDRs and power meters.
• Deliver services by interpreting and executing MoPs, engineering documents, vendor docs, and network diagrams.
• Read cut sheets and network design docs to ensure proper port connections and cable management.
