TTUHSC, operating at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX, is seeking a Correctional Nurse to deliver professional nursing care in a secure jail environment. This role emphasizes assessments, care planning, and coordination with custody and medical teams to ensure quality outcomes.

The ideal candidate has an active Texas RN license or is eligible for transfer, and meets NCLEX eligibility for new grads. The position is full-time and on-site at the Belton facility, with a strong focus on infection

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in Texas or ability to transfer
  • New graduates must pass NCLEX-RN on first attempt
  • Knowledge of CDC guidelines and infection control standards
  • Experience in infection prevention and surveillance is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care and assessments
  • Coordinate patient care across disciplines and partners
  • Administer medications per clinical policies
  • Perform triage and prioritization of care requests
  • Oversee and guide LVNs and clinical staff
  • Complete other RN duties within scope

Position Description

Employees in this classification perform responsible professionalnursing care at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX .Responsible for the care and treatment of patients in accordancewith accepted nursing and medical standards; administrative nursingpersonnel. Supervises other subordinate clinic personnel. Work isperformed under correctional clinic conditions; position requires ahigh degree of contact with patients, other clinic personnel, andoutside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Clinical Operations: Provides direct and indirect nursing careto patients. Performs comprehensive assessments, develops andimplements care plans, and evaluates patient outcomes.
  • Care Coordination and Clinical Decision-making: Coordinatespatient care across disciplines, including providers, custody, andexternal partners. Initiates referrals, follow-ups, and continuityof care activities.
  • Medication Administration and Management: Administersmedications and monitors patient response in accordance withclinical policies.
  • Patient Assessment and Triage: Receives, assesses, andprioritizes patient care requests using clinical judgment.
  • Clinical Oversight and Team Support: Provides guidance andoversight to LVNs and other clinical staff.
  • Other duties as assigned: Completes additional responsibilitiesreasonably within the scope of the RN role as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Current RN License in the State of Texas, or ability totransfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program ofnursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Graduated froman approved accredited nursing program.
  • New graduates must pass the National Council LicensureExamination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt.No experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Centers for Disease Control and Preventionguidelines. Familiarity with National Commission on CorrectionalHealth Care standards. Knowledge of the appropriate use of healthinformation technology and systems. Ability to track, trend, andanalyze infection data. Experience with infection control reportingsystems and logs.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention practices andtransmission-based precautions. Experience with communicablediseases (e.g., TB, HIV, Syphilis). Understanding of surveillance,outbreak identification, and containment. Familiarity withimmunization protocols and exposure management.
