Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a Correctional LVN to provide patient care at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX. The role reports to a registered nurse within a correctional health care team and emphasizes safe, competent care in a controlled setting.

Candidates must hold a Texas Vocational Nurse license, have CPR certification, and meet NCLEX-PN requirements. The position is full-time and hourly, with pay ranging from $25.00 to $35.00 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Active Vocational Nurse license in Texas is required.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • New graduates must pass the NCLEX-PN on the first attempt.
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in problem identification and goal setting.
  • Prepares and operates equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assists with exams and procedures within LVN scope of practice.
  • Administers or assists with medications following policies and procedures.
  • Assess and triage patient care requests according to policy and standards.
  • Performs nursing rounds as needed in all required areas.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the job.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patientresponses to assist in the identification of problems andformulation of goals and outcomes.
  • Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments forexaminations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assists with or performs exams and procedures: Assistance inexams and procedures is conducted within the LVN scope ofpractice.
  • Administer or assist with the administration of medications topatients: Ensures patient medications are administered followingclinical and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Assess and triage patient care requests: Receives, documents,assesses, and responds to patient care requests according to policyand standards.
  • Performs nursing rounds as needed in all required areas.
  • Other duties as assigned: Performs other duties as required orassigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in thejob classification and/or position description.

Required Qualifications

Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or abilityto transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program ofvocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.Current CPR certification. Graduated from an approved, accreditednursing program. New graduates must pass the National CouncilLicensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the firstattempt. No experience required.
