Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Conroe is seeking a Correctional LVN to provide direct nursing care within the Montgomery County Jail health facility, under RN supervision.

The role requires current Texas Vocational Nurse license or eligibility, CPR certification, and graduation from an approved nursing program with NCLEX-PN on first attempt for new grads. This full-time, hourly position features standard documentation and care coordination.

  • Conduct nursing rounds and respond to patient care requests with timely documentation.

Position Description

Employees in this classification are responsible for performing awide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctionalfacility. They function within their legal scope of practice and inaccordance with the policies and procedures of the organization andpractice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed healthcare team in providing safe and competent care to patients.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Provides direct nursing services to patients in the healthfacility following standards of care of the department. Timely,concisely, and appropriately documents activities in patients’health records.
  • Ensures clinical health equipment and technology is in goodworking order, and maintains equipment according to departmentalstandards. Including operational use, cleaning/sterilizationprotocols. Immediately reports inoperable equipment perdepartmental standards.
  • Assistance in exams and procedures is conducted within the RNscope of practice. All activities are clearly, concisely documentedin patients’ health records. Specimens taken during exam orprocedure are labeled at patient's bedside.
  • Ensures patient medications are administered following clinicaland compliance policies and procedures. Activities are documentedclearly and concisely in medication systems and patients’ healthrecords timely and accurately.
  • Receives, documents, assesses, and responds to patient carerequests according to policy and standards of the department.Clearly, concisely, and timely documents activities in thepatient’s health records.
  • Nursing rounds will be performed per department standards; anyand all complaints are documented in patients’ health records.Additional healthcare needs are requested as needed.
  • Oversees the clinical practice of LVNs and other clinicalpersonnel in the health facility
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which arereasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classificationand/or position description

Required Qualifications

Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or abilityto transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program ofvocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.Current CPR certification. Graduated from an approved, accreditednursing program. New graduates must pass the National CouncilLicensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the firstattempt. No experience required.
