Job summary

Services for the UnderServed is seeking a Residential Specialist for its family shelter in the Bronx, NY 10457. The role requires managing 24/7 coverage, creating a warm, compassionate welcome and supporting residents toward independence.

The ideal candidate demonstrates humility, integrity and strong empathy, and will work with case managers, clinicians and shelter staff to promote person-centered services and safety across the building.

Qualifications

• Trauma-informed, client-centered approach.
• Non-judgmental communication with residents.
• Flexibility with schedule and crisis situations.
• Experience with homelessness, substance misuse, harm reduction.
• Sensitivity to diverse communities including LGBTQ+, HIV/AIDS, elderly, and disabled.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular rounds to ensure safety and residents’ wellbeing.
• Enter activity logs and shift notes promptly and accurately.
• Complete admissions paperwork.
• Escort residents to services and activities outside the facility as needed.
• Meet with Shift Supervisor for supervision.
• Plan and conduct self-care and social activities for residents.
• Coordinate with case managers for assigned tasks.
• Provide initial program orientation.
• Provide administrative support (office, phone, clerical, food services).
• Follow emergency procedures and fire drills.
• Attend trainings and agency meetings as required.
• Provide meal coordination.
