Job summary

Services for the UnderServed in Brooklyn, NY is hiring a Residential Specialist to provide a warm, compassionate welcome to shelter residents. The role includes 24/7 coverage to ensure safety, assist with admissions, coordinate meals, and support residents’ independence with empathy and integrity.

The ideal candidate is trauma-informed, communicates clearly, and collaborates with Shift Supervisors and case managers. Must hold F02 certification and a valid security license.

Qualifications

• F02 certification is REQUIRED.
• Security license is REQUIRED.
• Trauma-informed, client-centered approach with anti-oppressive lens.
• Respond to residents with neutral, non-judgmental language.
• Flexibility with schedule; ability to handle crises professionally.
• Experience with homelessness, substance misuse and working with disenfranchised communities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular rounds to ensure safety and residents' well-being.
• Enter activity logs and shift notes promptly and accurately.
• Complete admissions paperwork.
• Escort residents to services or housing referrals.
• Meet with Shift Supervisor for supervision and guidance.
• Plan and support self-care and social activities; lead resident groups.
• Collaborate with case managers on tasks.
• Provide orientation to the program and administrative support.
• Follow emergency procedures and participate in drills.
• Attend trainings and agency meetings; provide meal coordination.
