Job summary

Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is seeking a Residential Specialist for its adult families' shelter in Manhattan, NY. You will provide a warm, compassionate welcome, promote person‑centered services, and support residents’ independence while maintaining 24/7 building coverage.

You will collaborate with case managers, assist with admissions and escorts to services, participate in supervision, and help plan self‑care and community activities.

Qualifications

  • High Diploma or GED along with relevant experience.
  • F-02 certification (Required for family shelters only)
  • A security license is mandatory but may be obtained within 6 months if hired.
  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens into your work with the people we serve.
  • Use neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to the needs and requests of the Residents
  • Must have the ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.
  • Ability to maintain professional maturity during a crisis
  • Able to demonstrate excellence in customer service
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with homelessness, substance misuse, and harm reduction, including LGBTQ, HIV/AIDS, elderly, and individuals with mental health and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure safety and residents wellbeing.
  • Enter activity log information and shift notes promptly and accurately.
  • Complete admissions paperwork.
  • Escort residents to services and activities outside the facility.
  • Meet with Shift Supervisor for supervision.
  • Plan and conduct resident self-care and group activities.
  • Meet with case managers to assist in tasks.
  • Provide initial orientation to the program.
  • Provide administrative support in office coverage and clerical work.
  • Understand and follow emergency procedures including fire drills.
  • Attend trainings and agency meetings as necessary.
  • Provide meal coordination.
