Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is hiring for a Patient Access Clerk. You will greet patients, register them promptly, collect demographics and insurance details, explain insurance processing and financial options, and ensure documentation is scanned clearly.

You will also promote MyChart and support efficient patient flow. You should have a High School Diploma or GED, at least 1 year in a healthcare setting, and strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year in a healthcare-related field preferred.
• Adequate keyboard skills (40 wpm).
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Strong organizational and communication abilities.
• Ability to discuss medical issues clearly with patients.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English well.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers professionally and guide them to the correct area.
• Ensure timely patient registration, aiming for no more than 15 minutes per visit.
• Update demographics and accurately code patient information (contact numbers, address, insurance details, etc.).
• Explain deductibles, co-insurance, co-payments, and insurance processing; discuss financial options including financial assistance.
• Obtain signatures via e-signature and collect IDs and insurance cards; ensure documents are scanned clearly.
• Notify insurance representative for verification of coverage and initiate authorization when needed.
• Explain and promote MyChart to patients and collect email addresses.
• Support patient flow and clear backlogs in assigned area as needed.
