Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department on the Day shift. You will greet patients, register them promptly, and collect demographic and insurance information with care and accuracy.

Responsibilities include explaining insurance, assisting with MyChart, and coordinating with supervisors to maintain smooth patient flow. Strong communication, organization, and healthcare exposure are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare-related field, preferably finance.
• Adequate keyboard skills (40 wpm) and basic computer skills.
• Strong organizational and communication abilities, including discussing medical issues.
• Negotiation skills, assertiveness and proactivity are desirable.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; effective communication with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers professionally and guide them to the correct area.
• Ensure timely patient registration; aim for 15 minutes to maintain flow.
• Collect updated demographics and accurately code patient data.
• Explain insurance processing, deductibles, co-insurance, and co-pays; meet cash collection goals.
• Obtain signatures and documents (e-signatures); handle Medicare patients appropriately.
• Notify insurance for verification and initiations of authorization when needed.
• Explain MyChart and encourage patient email enrollment.
• Assist in managing patient flow and reduce backlog in the assigned area.
