Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer to turn incomplete business needs into working software by applying a technical approach to AI/LLM projects. This hands‑on, client‑facing role involves refining requirements with stakeholders, proposing better approaches, and delivering production‑quality functionality.

You will work across client delivery, internal product development, rapid proofs of concept, and enablement.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent ability.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands‑on experience building apps that integrate LLMs, including prompt engineering and retrieval augmentation.
• Experience building applications that integrate AI with APIs, data handling, and user‑facing features.
• Ability to conduct requirements conversations with non‑technical stakeholders and propose approaches.
• Willingness to challenge designs and justify alternatives.
• Ability to work through ambiguous requirements and deliver.
• Clear written and verbal communication; candor about limits of knowledge.
• U.S. Citizenship required for government engagements.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build production‑quality functionality.
• Lead requirements discussions with business stakeholders to define workflow and outcomes.
• Contribute to solution design and simplify AI components where appropriate.
• Build end‑to‑end applications with AI capabilities, prompts, retrieval, APIs, and UI.
• Create evaluation sets, measure results, and report findings honestly.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes for incorrect results.
• Support client demonstrations and proofs‑of‑concepts.
• Ask thoughtful questions and continuously learn client needs and AI best practices.
• Document work with logging, traceability, and clear validation methods.
• Move between client delivery, internal product work, and rapid PoCs as needed.
