Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer to translate incomplete business needs into working software. This hands-on, client-facing role involves refining requirements with stakeholders, designing technical solutions, and delivering production-quality AI-enabled applications.

You will navigate between client delivery, internal product development, proofs of concept, and enablement, with opportunities to contribute reusable patterns and evaluation harnesses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent demonstrated ability.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building applications that integrate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and/or tool use.
• Experience contributing to applications that integrate AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality.
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL, with API integration and imperfect data handling.
• Ability to conduct requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders and propose approaches.
• Willingness to question designs and advocate alternatives.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous requirements and drive work to completion.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Candor about knowledge limits and willingness to ask questions.
• U.S. Citizenship required for certain engagements.

Responsibilities

• Take defined technical approach and build production‑quality functionality.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders to understand workflow and outcomes.
• Contribute to solution design and identify simplifications or reduced AI components.
• Build complete applications integrating AI capabilities, prompts, retrieval, APIs, data handling, and UI.
• Create evaluation sets from real data and report results honestly.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes.
• Support client demonstrations and proof‑of‑concepts.
• Seek feedback and refine understanding of client needs and AI best practices.
• Document work with logging, traceability, and validation details.
• Move between client delivery, internal product work, and internal enablement as needed.
• Raise blockers early and share concerns.
• Contribute reusable patterns, prompts, and evaluation harnesses.
