Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer who can translate loosely defined business needs into production-ready software. This hands-on, client-facing role spans delivery, internal product development, rapid proofs of concept, and enablement. You will collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and design scalable AI-enabled solutions.

Ideal candidates have 1+ years in software development, experience with large language models, API integration, and a willingness to challenge designs. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent demonstrated ability.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building applications that integrate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and/or tool use.
• Experience contributing to applications that integrate AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality.
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL, and API integration with imperfect data.
• Ability to discuss requirements with non-technical stakeholders and propose approaches.
• Willingness to question designs and propose alternatives.
• Ability to work through ambiguous requirements and drive tasks to completion.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Candor about knowledge limits and seeking answers rather than assumptions.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build it into production-quality functionality.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders to understand workflow and outcomes.
• Contribute to solution design and opportunities to simplify or reduce AI use where possible.
• Build complete applications integrating AI capabilities with prompts, retrieval, APIs, and user-facing features.
• Create evaluation data, measure results, and report findings accurately, including negative results.
• Investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement fixes.
• Support client demonstrations and proofs-of-concept to illustrate AI value.
• Solicit feedback and continuously align with client needs and AI best practices.
• Document work with logging, traceability, and validation methods.
• Move between client delivery, internal product work, and rapid proofs of concept as needed.
• Raise blockers early and share results you don't trust.
• Contribute reusable prompts and evaluation patterns to the team.
