Job summary

Groundswell is seeking a software engineer who turns an incompletely defined business need into working software. This hands‑on, client‑facing role refines requirements with business stakeholders and shapes technical design early in development.

Responsibilities span client delivery, internal product work, rapid proofs of concept, and enabling internal teams. You’ll propose better approaches, build end‑to‑end AI-enabled applications, and document outcomes for clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated ability in a technical field.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building apps that integrate LLMs, including prompt engineering and retrieval augmented generation.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality.
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL and API integration with imperfect data.
• Ability to discuss requirements with non-technical stakeholders and propose approaches.
• Willingness to question designs and drive completion amid ambiguity.
• Clear written and verbal communication; candor about knowledge limits.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build production‑quality functionality.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders to understand workflow and outcomes.
• Contribute ideas to design and identify simplifications or AI reductions when appropriate.
• Develop complete applications integrating AI capabilities, prompts, retrieving design, and API integration.
• Build evaluation sets from real data and report results honestly, even if unfavorable.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes; support demonstrations and proofs of concept.
• Capture feedback, ask thoughtful questions, and learn client needs and best practices.
• Document work with logging, traceability, and known limitations.
