Groundswell is seeking an engineer to turn vague business needs into working software, with a hands-on, client-facing role. You will refine requirements with stakeholders, design solutions, and build production-quality AI-enabled applications.

The work spans client delivery, internal product development, and rapid proofs of concept, with opportunities to push for simpler, effective AI use. You will collaborate across teams, measure results, and communicate clearly while navigating ambiguous

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent demonstrated ability.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building applications that integrate LLMs, including prompt engineering, retrieval, and structured extraction.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL with API integration
• Ability to conduct a requirements conversation with non-technical stakeholders
• Willingness to question a design and advocate alternatives
• Ability to work through ambiguous requirements and drive tasks to completion
• Clear written and verbal communication
• U.S. Citizenship required

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build production‑quality functionality.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders to understand workflow and outcomes.
• Contribute ideas during solution design and identify simplifications of AI components.
• Build applications that integrate AI with prompts, retrieval, tools, APIs, and UI.
• Create evaluation sets, measure results, and report findings honestly.
• Investigate failures, identify causes, and implement fixes.
• Support client demonstrations and proof‑of‑concepts.
• Capture feedback and align with client needs and AI best practices.
• Document logging, validation, limitations, and behavior.
• Move between client delivery, internal product work, and PoCs as needed.
• Raise blockers early when requirements are unclear.
• Contribute reusable prompts and evaluation patterns to the team.
