Rescue Mission Alliance in Syracuse is seeking a Part-Time Client Care Specialist for the Emergency Shelter on the 2nd shift, Thursdays through Saturdays from 3:30pm to 10:00pm. The role emphasizes building a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where clients access resources, receive encouragement, and work toward greater stability and independence within a direct-care setting.

Starting pay is $18.50 per hour with an additional $1.00 per hour differential for hours 1:00pm–11:30pm.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
• Experience with homelessness or related challenges preferred.

In this direct-care human services role, you will support individuals experiencing homelessness by helping create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where clients can access resources, receive encouragement, and work toward greater stability and independence.

What You’ll Do:

As a Client Care Specialist, you will:

• Build positive, professional relationships with clients.
• Provide support, encouragement, and motivation while helping clients maintain or build independence.
• Treat all clients with respect, dignity, and compassion.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
• Help create a safe, supportive, and welcoming shelter environment.
• Conduct regular rounds and monitor the facility to support client safety.
• Assist clients with basic needs, including personal care items and bedding.
• Respond to client concerns and challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Reinforce shelter guidelines and expectations respectfully and consistently.
• Connect clients with appropriate Rescue Mission services and resources.
• Conduct drug and breathalyzer testing when required.
• Document important client information while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Communicate relevant information with team members and participate in meetings.
• Complete required training within 30 days of assignment.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or other barriers is desired.
