Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracuse, NY is seeking a Part-Time Client Care Specialist for the Syracuse Emergency Shelter. The role focuses on direct care for individuals experiencing homelessness, creating a safe and supportive environment, and helping clients access resources and stability.

You’ll build relationships, provide encouragement, and ensure respectful treatment while maintaining confidentiality and safety in a busy shelter setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness or related challenges desirable.

Schedule: Friday – Monday: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM | Rate of pay: $18.50 per hour + Shift Differential + Weekend Warrior

2nd Shift Differential: Additional $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 1:00pm-11:30pm

The Rescue Mission is seeking a Part-Time Client Care Specialist to join our Syracuse Emergency Shelter team. In this direct-care human services role, you will support individuals experiencing homelessness by helping create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where clients can access resources, receive encouragement, and work toward greater stability and independence.

What You’ll Do

As a Client Care Specialist, you will:

• Build positive, professional relationships with clients.

• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
• Help create a safe, supportive, and welcoming shelter environment.
• Conduct regular rounds and monitor the facility to support client safety.
• Assist clients with basic needs, including personal care items and bedding.
• Respond to client concerns and challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Reinforce shelter guidelines and expectations respectfully and consistently.
• Connect clients with appropriate Rescue Mission services and resources.
• Conduct drug and breathalyzer testing when required.
• Document important client information while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Communicate relevant information with team members and participate in meetings.
• Complete required training within 30 days of assignment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or other barriers is desired.

Rate of Pay

Starting Pay rate - $18.50 per hour

2nd Shift Differential (1:00 PM – 11:30 PM) – Additional $1.00 per hour

Weekend Warrior (only scheduled shifts Friday-Monday) - Additional $1.00 per hour
