Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. in Winchester, VA is seeking a skilled tractor-trailer operator to pick up and deliver trailers between service centers and turn-points.

The role includes non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work, with responsibilities spanning pre-/post-trip inspections, accurate logs, and compliance with DOT regulations. The position requires a Class A CDL or CLP, a current acceptable MVR, and the ability to perform basic math.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and company procedures as required.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Drive long distances day and night in all weather.
• Overnight stays may be required.
