Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver/operator to learn and perform tractor-trailer operations, including doubles or straight trucks. You will complete pre/post-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and handle freight with motorized and manual equipment.

Role involves hazmat regulatory compliance, documentation, and customer communication. The position requires a CDL A or CLP, good MVR, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly.

Qualifications

• CDL A or CLP required before entering job classification.
• Clean MVR according to hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 383/391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of ~100 pounds, several times a day.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow laws and company policies; perform other duties.
