Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a tractor-trailer driver to operate a combination vehicle, picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and turn-point locations. Through education and on-the-job training you will develop driving skills.

Responsibilities include pre- and post-trip inspections, logging, documentation, and following dispatch instructions. The role may involve forklift/dock work and occasional overnight schedules; starting pay is $25.64 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor‑trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre‑trip, post‑trip, and inter‑trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Where operationally necessary, perform duties of a city driver or freight handler.
• Freight handling using equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Chain vehicle tires, as required.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
