Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a professional driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and ensure safe, on-time deliveries between service centers and turn-point locations.

You will conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain logs, and follow dispatch instructions while complying with DOT and hazmat requirements. The role may include dock duties and occasional city-driving tasks.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures; ensure hazmat placarding is correct.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Where needed, perform duties of a city driver or freight handler.
• Freight handling using equipment like forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
