Job summary

East Tennessee Children's Hospital is seeking a front desk/registration coordinator to be the first point of contact for patients and families. You will assist with patient registration, verify insurance, schedule appointments, and resolve billing issues with a focus on confidentiality and accuracy.

The role requires strong communication skills, data entry proficiency, and knowledge of customer service principles to ensure smooth operations and positive patient experiences.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
• Proficiency in computer data entry and familiarity with calendar applications and databases.
• Knowledge of customer service practices and principles.
• Strong research and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming telephone calls in a courteous and helpful manner; refer calls as needed and relay messages while maintaining confidentiality.
• Field outbound calls (e.g., insurance referrals, medical records, waitlist management).
• Registers new patients and updates patient information in scheduling system; verifies and creates subscriber information.
• Schedules follow-up appointments and provides necessary forms for parents; identifies legal guardian information to complete accounts.
• Ensures claims go out clean on first submission by identifying issues.
• Maintains confidentiality of hospital and patient information at all times.
• Handles patient/family complaints confidentially and responds within 24 hours.
• Balances end-of-day financials and provides information to ETCH Financial Services.
