Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled crew member to lead bridge construction, maintenance and related structural work. You will fabricate steel beams, install concrete elements, and read bridge plans to ensure accurate layout and safe operation.

Applicants should demonstrate leadership, strong communication, ability to perform heavy manual work in demanding environments, and a commitment to safety regulations (OSHA/VOHSA).

Qualifications

• Ability to lead, direct, and train others.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations, to measure and layout construction elements on bridges and culverts.
• Ability to perform physically demanding heavy manual labor, to work at heights, in and over water, around heavy traffic conditions.
• Ability to read, interpret, apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals. Read and interpret bridge plans.

• Fabricate bridge superstructure elements and read plans.
• Perform maintenance on bridges and culverts, including joints and decks.
• Lead and train crew, provide technical direction and assist with supervision during emergencies.
