Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Ability to work at heights, over and, or in water, in heavy traffic and under other adverse conditions.
• Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials, and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform special duties as assigned to repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures per VDOT specs.
• Construction Operations: carpentry, welding, concrete finishing; remove/install structural components.
• Emergency Operations: place temporary bridges, clear roadways, support snow and ice removal and traffic control.
• Environmental Protection: apply in-stream and environmental protection measures during maintenance and construction.
• Equipment Operations: operate light/medium duty highway equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Job Safety: follow safety rules, wear PPE, and maintain a safe work environment.
