Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a licensed civil/structural engineer to lead bridge design and rehabilitation projects on-site in Virginia. You will evaluate structures, prepare plans, and ensure designs meet AASHTO/LRFD standards.

You will supervise studies, coordinate with local governments and consultants, and manage project schedules and documentation to meet quality and timelines.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; PE license preferred.
• Experience in structural design for bridges and structures.
• Ability to estimate quantities and costs of materials.
• Experience managing projects and consultant contracts.
• Strong communication skills, written and oral.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary and final bridge designs and drawings.
• Check structural plans for conformance to AASHTO/VDOT specs.
• Oversee studies, develop reports, and present findings.
• Coordinate with internal/external stakeholders and meetings.
• Provide technical guidance on bridge construction and rehab.
• Manage project schedules and documentation.
