Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking skilled workers to repair, maintain, and replace bridges and structures in accordance with safety standards and VDOT specifications.

Responsibilities include carpentry, welding, concrete finishing, and operating light to medium-duty highway equipment. You will support emergency operations, environmental protection, and ensure site safety and compliance with OSHA and VOSHA regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience in bridge maintenance or construction.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and layout constructed elements.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing to repair, replace or demolish structures.
• Place temporary bridges and manage emergency operations for snow, ice removal, or debris.
• Operate light and medium-duty highway equipment.
• Apply protective environmental measures during maintenance and construction.
• Follow safety rules, wear PPE and maintain a safe work environment.
