Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• Fluency in English; written and oral communication.
• Fluency in English & Spanish is required in the El Paso Market. For PA candidates, Act 33/Act 73 clearances may be required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and hospital regulations in Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service by understanding customers and building relationships.
• The Patient Access Specialist identifies and triages patients upon arrival to the hospital.
• Answer telephone professionally, record messages, and relay to staff.
• Provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize collections at the time of service in a customer-focused manner.
• Scan registration and clinical documents; maintain medical records.
• Assist with coordinating patient transfers to other hospitals when necessary.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals; maintain logs.
• Maintain cash drawer per policy and log payments, transfers, admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
