Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison among patients, payers, and healthcare teams. The role focuses on gathering demographic data, securing payments, and maximizing hospital reimbursement.

The position is swing shift, PRN, located at Zarzamora in Texas, requiring fluent English; bilingual Spanish is required in El Paso Market and entails strong customer service and accurate data entry responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• ED registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare and Medicaid payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office proficiency preferred.
• Fluency in English; bilingual in English & Spanish required in El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance relevant to Admissions and medical records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to the hospital.
• Answer phones professionally and route messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information for accounts to aid revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plans in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at point of service in a courteous manner.
• Scan and maintain medical records and documents.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other facilities when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and registration logs.
• Attend staff meetings and assist medical staff as needed.
