Job summary

City of Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a Benefit Programs Specialist to manage intake, determine eligibility for public assistance, and ensure applicants receive needed support.

You will conduct eligibility interviews, manage client caseloads, provide counseling on benefit programs, and perform administrative duties while complying with department policies. This full-time role includes benefits and paid training, with participation in the Virginia Retirement System.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience working with the general public in a local department of social services, or equivalent education, and/or experience.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check including Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry.

Responsibilities

• Eligibility Assessment: Conduct interviews to determine eligibility for assistance programs.
• Case Management: Maintain a caseload and ensure ongoing program eligibility.
• Client Support and Counseling: Explain benefits and guide applicants through the process.
• Administrative Duties: Perform tasks to maintain records and policy compliance.
