Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Automation/Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our Energy and Resources team in the United States. This role develops foundational consulting-based automation and control system design across mining and heavy industry projects.

You will design I&C deliverables, specify instrumentation, and integrate PLC/DCS/SCADA architectures, collaborating with remote teams and vendors. A BS in engineering and PE licensure (or path to licensure) are required, with 5–10 years’

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
• 5–10 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, mining, oil & gas, power generation.
• A Professional Engineering license (or the ability to become licensed).

Responsibilities

• Engineering support for multidisciplinary projects through all phases from proposals to start-up.
• Site work for investigations, validations, and commissioning support.
• Lead design of I&C construction deliverables (diagrams, wiring, layouts).
• Specify instrumentation specs and datasheets; support procurement through evaluations.
• Design PLC/DCS/HMI/SCADA architectures and integrations with third-party systems.
• Plan and coordinate CWPs, ensure quality and consistency, manage internal/external stakeholder communication.
• Travel to client sites as needed (~10%).
