Job summary

WSP Global Inc. in Hauppauge, NY is seeking a full-time System Operator II to monitor and manage the Transportation Management Center's ITS assets. The role requires familiarity with Long Island roadways, strong computer skills, and the ability to work any shift, including overnights and weekends.

You will operate ATMS, monitor CCTV, radios, and field devices, prepare daily reports, train new staff, and support 24/7 operations while adhering to safety and policy guidelines.

Qualifications

• A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
• Must be willing to work all shifts including weekends, overnights and holidays.
• Proficient with MS Office, GIS and web-based information systems.
• Aptitude for providing exceptional customer service.
• Must pass a State Police background/criminal history check.
• In-depth knowledge of local roadways.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with TMC type facility and/or traffic management.
• Demonstrates commitment to workplace safety and policy adherence.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with MS Office, spreadsheets and databases.
• Ability to work with internal/external stakeholders and mentor staff; responds 24/7/365 to problems; analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate the TMC's Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
• Monitor radios, CCTV displays, and system maps for incidents.
• Oversee traffic signal and ramp metering activities.
• Dispatch malfunctions and maintenance calls to appropriate personnel.
• Perform record keeping, keyboard entries and generate daily reports.
• Monitor and update all variable message signs (VMS/PVMS).
• Generate traffic-related messages on VMS/PVMS displays.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system-related problems.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff on system performance.
• Assist coworkers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information.
• Assemble and prepare roadwork/construction information for daily/weekly/open road reports.
• Administer On-the-Job Training as needed.
• Fulfill System Operator I responsibilities as required.
