Job summary

Potbelly Sandwich Works in Homewood, IL is seeking an Assistant Manager to co-lead a busy shop. You will train and develop staff, interview candidates, and foster a positive culture while meeting deadlines and labor goals.

We require at least 2 years of management experience in food-service or retail, strong communication, and the ability to supervise shifts, control costs, and ensure safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years management experience in restaurant or retail.
• Good communication skills and ability to lead a team.
• Ability to train, interview and schedule staff.
• Strong problem-solving and organization for fast-paced settings.
• Willing to meet deadlines and manage labor goals.
• Pass Food Safety Certification; Illinois requires certification within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Train, coach and develop associates and shift leaders.
• Interview and recommend hiring of staff and trainers.
• Foster a Good Vibes culture to attract and retain talent.
• Schedule staff and manage shift coverage.
• Update shop information boards and attend meetings.
• Ensure security procedures and back-of-house standards.
• Count drawers and handle daily cash procedures.
• Drive local marketing and recruiting efforts to maximize sales.
• Assist GM with cost of goods, variances and inventories.
• Control P&L items and maintain labor goals.
• Maintain health, safety and cleanliness standards.
• Handle customer complaints and issues; perform other duties as assigned.
