Job summary

Groundswell, a premier technology integrator, is seeking an engineer who can take a partially defined business need and produce working software. This hands-on, client-facing role spans delivering solutions, rapid proofs of concept, and internal product work.

You will work with stakeholders to refine requirements, design technical approaches, and build complete applications that integrate AI capabilities with prompts, retrieval, APIs, and data handling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent demonstrated ability.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building applications that integrate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and/or tool use.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing functionality
• Ability to conduct a requirements conversation with a non-technical stakeholder, identify the underlying need, and return with a proposed approach.
• Willingness to question a design and advocate alternatives.
• Ability to work through ambiguous requirements with guidance and drive assigned work to completion.
• Clear written and verbal communication. This role produces client-facing documentation.
• U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain federal government background investigation or security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and translate it into production‑quality functionality.
• Work with business stakeholders to refine requirements and desired outcomes.
• Contribute to solution design and simplify the AI components where appropriate.
• Build end-to-end applications that integrate AI, prompts, retrieval design, APIs, and data handling.
• Develop evaluation datasets, measure results, and report findings honestly.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes.
• Support client demonstrations and proofs of concept.
• Document work with logging, traceability, and validation methods.
• Move between client delivery, internal product work, and rapid proofs of concept as needed.
• Raise blockers and seek feedback early.
