Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer who can take an incompletely defined business need and produce working software. This hands-on, client-facing role spans delivering client solutions, internal product work, rapid proofs of concept, and internal enablement.

You will refine requirements with business stakeholders, propose better approaches, and build AI-enabled applications with prompts, retrieval, and structured outputs, including API integrations and data handling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-based apps, prompts, retrieval, and structured extraction.
• Experience integrating APIs, data handling, and user-facing features.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
• Comfort challenging designs and exploring alternatives.
• Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and ask thoughtful questions.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• U.S. Citizenship required with ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Take defined technical approach and build production-grade functionality.
• Participate in requirements discussions with stakeholders to understand workflow and desired outcomes.
• Suggest alternative approaches during solution design.
• Build complete applications that integrate AI capabilities with APIs, data handling, and UI.
• Create evaluation sets, measure results, and report findings.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes.
• Support client demonstrations and proofs of concept.
• Seek feedback and align with client needs and AI best practices.
• Document work with logging, traceability, and validation.
• Move between client delivery, product work, rapid proofs of concept, and enablement.
• Raise blockers early and develop reusable prompts and patterns.
