Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer who can translate an incomplete business need into working software, with a focus on AI capabilities. This hands-on, client-facing role will refine requirements with business stakeholders and evolve the solution from concept to production.

You will work across client delivery, internal product development, rapid proofs of concept, and enablement activities, balancing functionality with customer value and AI best practices.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent ability.
• 1+ year of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on with LLMs: prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, or tool use.
• Experience integrating AI apps with APIs, data handling, and user-facing features.
• Familiar with Python, TypeScript, or SQL and API integration.
• Ability to discuss requirements with non-technical stakeholders and propose approaches.
• Willingness to question designs and defend alternatives.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous requirements with guidance and complete tasks.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build production-grade functionality.
• Engage with stakeholders to understand workflow and desired outcomes.
• Contribute to solution design, identifying simplifications or AI-reduction opportunities.
• Develop complete apps that integrate AI with prompts, retrieval, APIs and UI.
• Create evaluation sets, measure results, and report findings honestly.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes.
• Support client demos and proofs-of-concept to show AI value.
• Capture feedback and expand knowledge of client needs and best practices.
• Document logging, behavior, limitations, validation, and failure handling.
