Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress while working with teachers on in-class instruction, breakout spaces, and other forms of student assistance.

Experience is not required; City Year provides 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year to support you, with ongoing collaboration and support from partner teachers and school

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; DACA status not eligible.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or HS diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor student progress.
• Contribute to extended day and after-school programming activities.
• Maintain student progress data in City Year’s student data system.
