Job summary

City Year is a national AmeriCorps program that places members in schools to coach and mentor students toward academic success and better attendance. You will plan individualized progress, collaborate with teachers, and support whole-school initiatives focused on student engagement and growth.

Entry-level, full-time AmeriCorps role with training provided. This position emphasizes teamwork, positive behavior development, and service to the community.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Age 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students to improve academic success and attendance.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and work with teachers on in-class instruction.
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students (1:1 and small groups).
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities and encourage assignment completion.
• Help create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming, enrichment, and leadership development.
