Job summary

MISO is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead one or more software teams, setting technical direction and driving delivery at scale. You will champion AI-native SDLC practices, align roadmaps with stakeholders, and manage budgets and vendors while mentoring engineers and emerging leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or four years of equivalent work experience).
• Minimum of 5 years of technical experience and 3 years of management experience required (with 12 years technical and 5 years management experience preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to lead multiple software engineering teams in a distributed workforce and manage vendor or staff augmentation resources.
• Experience overseeing fully outsourced teams, including vendor selection, onboarding, contract/SOW oversight, and performance management (preferred).
• Thorough understanding of and software development methodologies.
• Strong experience with implementing AI-native software engineering tooling and workflows with a demonstrated ability to stay current with rapidly evolving AI technology.
• Strong experience in CI/CD and modern engineering ecosystems (e.g., GitHub), cloud-native architectures (e.g., Azure, Kubernetes), containerization, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform).
• Background in developing customer-facing applications, APIs, and real‑time high‑availability systems.
• Understanding of application security practices and secure software development lifecycle in a compliance‑driven environment (e.g., NERC CIP, SOC 1).

• Champion AI-native and automation-first software development practices across the organization.
• Partner with Product Management to ensure roadmaps are feasible and aligned to stakeholder needs.
• Oversee vendor partnerships, including SOW development and ensuring delivery meets standards.
• Establish departmental goals and maintain adherence to standards and modern practices.
• Recruit, develop, manage, and coach a diverse team of engineers and leaders.
• Provide technology leadership in application development and security, track delivery and budgets.
