Job summary

Customer.io is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead multiple squads focused on customer-facing products and scalable infrastructure. You will drive end-to-end delivery, own milestones, and ensure architectural soundness while fostering high-performing, inclusive teams.

You’ll operate with autonomy, balance vision with execution, and bring AI-native practices to the table to accelerate velocity and prototyping. The role emphasizes mentoring and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3+ years managing engineers at a SaaS company (B2B or B2C)
• Concrete delivery outcomes with milestones, dates, and ownership
• Strong technical background for architecture discussions and reviews
• Ability to operate with high autonomy and make tough tradeoffs
• Demonstrated AI-native leadership and bringing AI-first practices into teams
• Experience building high-performing, inclusive, collaborative teams
• Clear, concise, and direct communication, both verbal and written

Responsibilities

• Lead squads to deliver real customer value from planning through delivery, quality, and follow-through
• Drive execution: set milestones, move work through ambiguity and competing priorities
• Make confident decisions when paths are unclear and lead the team through them
• Set operating rhythms to maximize velocity and reduce ceremony
• Ensure scalable, architecturally sound, secure solutions with strong peer-review and monitoring
• Jump into design reviews, architecture calls, and incidents to stay close to the work
• Provide direct coaching and development opportunities for direct reports
• Hire, onboard, and manage performance to hit squad goals
• Bring an AI-native perspective to accelerate velocity and prototyping
