Job summary

SMX is seeking a Mid-Level Site Reliability Engineer to architect, automate, and operate cloud infrastructure for AI/ML platforms. You will bridge MLOps and DevSecOps, deploying scalable architectures across government and commercial cloud environments while serving as a customer-facing SME.

This fully remote role is open to candidates across the United States, with responsibilities spanning Kubernetes, IaC, automation, security, and observability.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps or Platform Engineering.
• Proven ability to communicate complex infrastructure concepts to customer stakeholders as a technical SME.
• Strong operational proficiency with Kubernetes, container networking, RBAC, Pod Security and secrets management.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and IaC tooling such as Terraform; Git-based workflows.
• Automation proficiency in Python/Bash/Go for tooling development.
• Familiarity with CIS/NIST/FedRAMP security baselines and related controls.

Responsibilities

• Architect, deploy, and maintain highly available Kubernetes clusters across cloud environments for AI/ML workloads.
• Serve as the technical SME on client engagements, translating requirements into actionable architectures and demonstrating platform capabilities.
• Collaborate with delivery and account teams to scope, validate, and demonstrate modern AI/ML and DevSecOps architectures.
• Drive infrastructure automation using Terraform and GitOps patterns with security guardrails from day one.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with container security, artifact tracking, and audit logging.
• Monitor platform performance, capacity, telemetry; participate in on-call rotations and post-mortems.
• Work with engineering and security teams to enforce network segmentation, data isolation, and encryption.
• Produce client-ready documentation, runbooks, and reference architectures.
